The Beat Girl Project

Forgot to add: This piece was done for the AGDA (Australian Graphic Designer's Association) Annual 2011 Poster Competition "Inspired by Music". Below is the rationale I sent in:

I believe Plato says it best:

“Music gives soul to the universe,
wings to the mind,
flight to the imagination,
and life to everything.”

For me, music inspires everything I do. It moves me, it invigorates, and excites me in many ways. In this piece, I wanted to create a character that represents what music means to me. I created Beat Girl. She is a culture in herself. She is carefree, exciting, beautiful, sexy, and in tune with the beat. I find dance fascinating, and I listen to a lot of electronic and dance tracks. Energetic and full of life, Beat Girl is an expressive individual that loves to move with the beat. She characterizes what music is to me as an artist and an individual. I love to get lost in the beat of both heavy dance tracks and complex classical music. Music is so emotive and exciting, the only possible way to express it is with dance. Music is an intricate part of my lifestyle that has developed into a persona for me. Let Beat Girl dance with you, you won’t regret it.

In fact, just let the beat control you.
